Amazon paid for 40 hours a month of FreeBSD work for one year. Colin Percival used it to work around EC2’s own firmware bugs, cut boot times in half and ship four releases. Amazon’s contacts spent years agreeing it should be funded and saying they had no budget. Now the money is gone and the EC2 work will stall.
