HIBP started in 2013 as a pet project searching 154 million records. Pwned Passwords now serves 301.6 million requests in a single day, all from Cloudflare’s cache. The FBI and the UK’s NCA now feed it breach data. One volunteer’s side project does breach notification better than the companies that got breached.
