Two wooden tools pulled from a Greek lakebed survived 430,000 years because mud buried them before they could rot. One is a digging stick, the other a small chunk of willow that might have been used to shape stone tools. Wood almost never lasts this long, which means we have almost no idea how much of early human technology was wood-based and simply disappeared. Every “stone age” narrative probably undersells what these people were actually capable of.
